CAMP SMALL STEPS
Dravet syndrome (DS) is a rare, severe form of epilepsy marked by frequent, prolonged, and often treatment-resistant seizures. Many children with DS also experience developmental delays that can affect learning, cognition, speech, and motor skills—making everyday childhood experiences harder to access for them and their families.
In partnership with UCB, we created Camp Small Steps—an unbranded event designed to foster inclusion, connection, and empowerment. By celebrating the small but meaningful milestones in these children’s lives, we gave families a day filled with possibility, pride, and play.
In five cities across the country, we turned hotel ballrooms, outdoor venues, and unexpected spaces into Camp Small Steps.

We developed a custom branding system tailored to the Dravet syndrome community, including specialized graphics and a thoughtfully chosen color palette. Muted tones and the absence of patterns were intentionally used to help reduce the risk of triggering seizures, ensuring the design was both beautiful and accessible.

We set out to create an experience these children had never had before—one filled with discovery, creativity, and joy. Informed by research and interviews with families living with Dravet syndrome, we designed the event around what felt both safe and meaningful. The event featured hands-on activity stations tailored to sensory needs, including a simulated fishing experience, tactile sand play, arts & crafts, and a sing-along around a paper mâché campfire.
